What pushed Undertale, Citizen Sleeper, and A Short Hike to stardom? It wasn't just their emotional storytelling and satisfying gameplay loop. It's everything else that supported it.
Words of wisdom! Will definitely look into Ink. Thanks for highlighting this tool up here.
I am currently looking into tools that can help me develop. I do have a vision, but lack skills in pretty much anything 😆 at least that is required to start... like the lots of coding needed to implement what i envision into a new project.
Loved A Short Hike, cool to see how it was developed from just the dev prototyping.
No problem! I'm glad I could help in any way. If you're new in game development, always start small and work your way up. Depending on what project you want to make, I would look into different engines (Unity, Twine, Godot, GameMaker, etc.) See what's easy to use and has everything you need for your project. Good luck and thank you!
Yup - 1 year after starting and on the first Steam release, I'm using all my chops to keep the marathon onwards. I realized now how meaningful and difficult any artistic endeavors can be, given that you really try!
Game development is not easy! But once you get into the flow of things, and know your limits, everything will come together. Congrats on the release, btw!
Awesome article and really helpful for me as I've been tinkering with Twine lately and got a little overwhelmed and almost dropped the project I was working on. It's so easy to get lost in a big scope, and I needed a reminder that it's fine to be imperfect, it's fine to just take my time. Those amazing projects I see out there didn't appear by themselves, and it's okay to start out small and learn along the way.
I'm really happy that it was helpful! Thanks! Although it's just a starting point, it can be useful to get an overall understanding of your goals first before starting a long project. If you need any more help or info, feel free to ask!
